About the development

The Development

Established in 1994, Haga Haga Retreat is a small and exclusive development along a pristine stretch of the Eastern Cape coastline, just 60km drive from East London. The development is set on the magnificent Wild Coast, where the Indian Ocean meets the rugged coastline and pristine beaches of the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

Retreat, is exactly that, an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city; a retreat from the pressures and stresses of modern life into the tranquility and relaxation of the Wild Coast.  On any given day, you could be the only person on the beach, just a few minutes stroll from Retreat.

Tucked into the indigenous coastal forest, surrounded by rolling hills and farmlands on either side, bounded by the Haga Haga River and the warm Indian Ocean, this is the perfect location to build a family seaside holiday home or a residential retreat.

The Development is zoned as Resort II, which means there is a Home Owners' Association in place to ensure the smooth, safe and efficient running and maintenance of the development. There are basic architectural guidelines in place to ensure thatcohesive aesthetics of the development are maintained and to ensure that all homes and buildings are to a high standard.

Water, electrical and sewerage services

All of the plots within the development are freehold full title erven with both water and electrical connections available immediately.  Water is supplied from the nearby dam and treatment plant managed by Amathole District Municipality.  The sewerage system operates on a conservancy tank system which is serviced by Amathole District Municipality.  Electricity is supplied directly from Eskom.

Nature and wildlife

There is abounding birdlife at and around Retreat, an unspoilt natural haven for a large number of species.  From panoramic sea views, to the magnificent tropical forests on the adjacent cliff, Haga Haga Retreat offers the opportunity to reside amongst unparalleled natural beauty.

Retreat's infrastructure has been designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, with much of the indigenous bush remaining completely intact.  We encourage our homeowners to plant indigenous trees and gardens to complement the Eastern Cape flora and fauna. The roadways have been designed in such a way as to minimise their environmental impact and to ensure that the look and feel of the development is as natural as possible.

The homes

The existing home owners have built magnificent homes in keeping with the guidelines of Retreat. The homes along the river are ingeniously designed amongst the coastal forest along the bank of the river offering spectacular river, sea and cliff views, while the homes on the elevated sections of Retreat make the most of the spectacular panoramic  sea views.
